Patek Philippe Pocket Watch Lepine Kyudo

Ref. 992/158J

The Patek Philippe Pocket Watch 992/158J is a unique piece created for the 2023 Patek Philippe Tokyo exhibition. This unique piece unites several of the rare handcrafts in honor of kyudo, the Way of the Bow, a Japanese martial art arising from the use of archery in feudal warfare. The Japanese garden decor on the case back was hand engraved and hand guilloched, and then coated with translucent and opalescent enamels, a technique known as flinqu enamel. To depict the archer, the enameller turned to miniature painting on enamel, applied in small deft touches in 7 colors. The dial, representing the mato or target, was hand guilloched and coated with 2 shades of green translucent enamel (flinqu enamel). The unique yellow-gold hands echo the shape of arrows and are adorned with hand engraving. A green tsavorite cabochon (0.29 ct) decorates the crown. The border of the case back, the bezel and the bow are hand engraved with a typically Japanese ornament.
