Atlanta's Fernbank Science Center houses one of the largest planetariums in the United States and offers regular lunar observation events. The Cherokee and Creek peoples who originally inhabited the region maintained detailed lunar calendars. The Green Corn Ceremony, one of the most important Creek ceremonies, was timed by the new moon in late summer.
